Bob Russell: “How to govern the commons, that’s gonna be our challenge. The commons of: our health commons, our ecosystem commons, our educa- all this stuff is what we hold in common to make our community work. Governance is really really the hardest thing we have to figure out. We have to be cooperative, we have to be collaborative, we have to have short feedback loops. We have to do a lot of things. We have to start on it because it’s a big project.”

“Humans like to predict things but we live on this unpredictable planet. But it’s always been a really fun planet to live on, for me anyway. I hope it’s been a pretty fun ride for you so far.”

What’s the worry what’s the hurry what’s the balance between what we see/know needs to be needs to happen and our own limitations imperfections nearsightedness and cruelty?

“Governance is an important piece in our community: how we make decisions. It’s not Government, but Governance.”

What’s the deal with ideals and visions and plans and decisions hardly ever ending up the way we thought they’d, the way we’d dreamed they’d, just the way we’d planned they’d be - to have to compromise

“The biggest struggle everywhere is how we, collectively, as humans make decisions. And we just have not gotten very good at it for a while. But, luckily, the women are on it.”

What’s the weapon of choice - what’s the voice of your heart - what’s the best way to be useful right away without running out astray - What’s the problem with good intentions Love in action A healing economy - Our plans went askew Our loss is here too We’re here in the flesh and blood and then our lives are up for review
I’m glad I ran into you
I’m glad I ran into you

I mean, if you- we don’t even know how many species are on the planet… we haven’t got a clue… 100 million, 200 million? We are never going to understand this, in terms of like trying to control it, manage it, keep it the way we want to keep it. We have to live with it and be like nature. And it’s fun to be that way! You know? Why would we not? We’ve been struggling to be something else for so long it’s becoming, you know - a crisis. So let’s just leave that world. When we’re in a community, we can do amazing things. We can even keep ourself alive.
