Balm for the soul

Louie the Lightning Bug

My life is rearranging itself
And somehow I’m here in Oklahoma
It’s not the homa that I’m use-ta
And I’m all alone-a in the Americana Motel
I’m getting used to the smell, well

My life has been given a good shaking
And I am not sure how to deal with it
Because I am here in Oklahoma
Inside a giant costume
Giving children hugs
As a six foot tall bug, yeah

Day after day, we do our little play
Try to inspire and feed their fires
Now I do all I can, but I’m not Superman
No, no, no
I’m Louie the Lightning Bug
I’m Louie the Lightning
Bug, Bug, Bug, Bug, Bug, Bug

His name is Caleb and his life
Is very rarely nourished
And I ask: How can a first grader flourish
When the adults around him have made it their goal to control him?

And at his school today we’ll do our little play
Try to inspire and feed his fire
Now I do all I can, but I’m not superman
No, no no
I’m Louie the Lightning Bug
I’m Louie the Lightning
Bug, Bug, Bug, Bug, Bug, Bug

All that was stable in my life
Has rearranged itself
But I’ll be home-a soon to work through it all
And for now I shall stand proud and tall
Antennae and all

For a few more days we’ll do our little play
Try to inspire and feed their fires
Now I do all I can, and you know who I am, yeah
Say it again
I’m Louie the Lightning Bug
I’m Louie the Lightning
Bug, Bug, Bug, Bug, Bug, Bug

Louie the Lightning Bug
I’m Louie the Lightning Bug
yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

From the album

“The argument for the most influential human in the Michigan music uprising of the past decade may begin and end with one Seth Bernard.”

“Paradigm-shifting and culture healing music as resourcing for next-level human stewards of planet earth.”

Elizabeth Wolff
