Balm for the soul

Pennin’

Pennin’ in the morning. Pennin’ in the evening. Pennin’ out the within. Pennin’ and a singin’ and a, pickin’ out the within.

Catchin’ up with a once in a sun span. Nothin’s up with a wheezin’ in a night tan.
Tone down all the poundin’ in the sound man. Home town’s gotta’ turn around downtown.
Switchin’ the tracers ain’t nothin’ surprisin’ like mixin’ the faders while the moon is risin’.
Inner explorers wantin’ exercising. Try pennin’ and a-singin’ and a-mixin’ the cauldron.

Pennin’ in the morning. Pennin’ in the evening. Pennin’ out the within. Pennin’ and a singin’ and a, pickin’ out the within.

Like runnin’ so far that your head goes flyin’. Gettin’ so cold with your teeth gone chatterin’.
A teapot boilin’ and overflowing. Pennin’ and a-pickin’ and a whistlin’.
And who knows a goin’ on involuntarily. Wind blows a leaf to the river to the sea.
Gone back to the days that flew so fast. Pennin’ and remembrin’ and changin’ the past.

Pennin’ in the morning. Pennin’ in the evening. Pennin’ out the within. Pennin’ and a singin’ and a, pickin’ out the within.

They’ve been drinking so much water. Volunteering at the juvie senior center.
They’ve been swimming in the Jordan River. They’ve been standing up straighter and taller. They’ve been breathing so much deeper. They’ve been under so much pressure.
Gravity’s offers like that of a lover. Lovers offers like gravity.
Silence offers so much splendor for people like us in a rush to remember
what it felt like to be free when we were younger or to fall into the eyes of a lover.

Pennin’ in the morning. Pennin’ in the evening. Pennin’ inside out. Extracting the senses and waxin’ pretentious.

(voice of the skeptic) “I see what you’re sellin’ but I don’t buy it. I’ve heard about Pennin’ and I’m not gonna try it”

Well how about barter or local legal tender?
A letter to your leader marked return to sender?
Dippin’ in the creek ain’t so oblique and everyone’s a love lover under the sheets
Doped out phased out clever perceivers, under the covers we’re Lotus Flowers

“I see what you’re doing and I know what’s behind it. You’re trying not to think, but you can’t help it. Drop it, we’ve heard enough about it. We’re all gonna die, with or without it”

You’re right about the thinkin’ and you’re right about the dyin’
But what about the within and the underlyin’?
Things to be tryin’ before we’re done dyin’
Like: we’re here first, we’re the cure we’re the curse,
We’re holograms in a holographic universe
We’re liquid crystals in multiple dimensions
We’re divine beings in an age of extinction
We’re jonesin’ for somethin’ just right
We’re oscillating systems, ignorance and insight
We’re vessels of light in the cold dark night
Would you like some more pennin’ or are you alright?
Alright!

Pennin’ in the mornin’, pennin’ in the evenin’, pennin’ out the within’ (are you alright??)
The underlyin’ before we’re done dyin’

From the album

“I know that the future of music is in good hands with people like Seth around to be its caretaker. More importantly, I know the future of our world is in good hands.”

“The argument for the most influential human in the Michigan music uprising of the past decade may begin and end with one Seth Bernard.”
